Anatomical terms for Limbs:

Flexion & Extension:

Flexion is a movement toward the ventral surface of the body and Extension is the movement toward the dorsal surface of the body.

Abduction & Adduction:

Abduction of the limb means a movement that carries the limb away from the median plane of the body. Conversely, adduction of a limb brings It back towards the median plane.

Pronation & Supination:

When the dorsum of the hand is turned forward without rotation of the upper arm, this constitutes pronation of the forearm and hand. Turning the hand back to the anatomical position, so that the palm faces forward, constitutes supination.

Inversion & Eversion:

Inversion is the movement that turns the sole of the foot inward or medially. Eversion is turning the sole outward or laterally.

Circumduction:

It is a combination movement, when a part is moved successively through flexion, abduction, extension and adduction.
